Die Bücher sind meist eine Mischung aus Comics, lehrreichen Texten und Rätseln.Analog hierzu produzierte die BBC eine Fernsehserie und auch Hörspiele. Hier wird in kleinen Spielszenen mit typisch britischem, schwarzem Humor, über die Highlights und Lowlights der griechischen Geschichte hergezogen. Welche Körperflüssigkeiten mussten die Griechischen Ärzte alle probieren (gruselig), wie war das Schulleben und die Schulzeit in Sparta (G8 ist ein Spaziergang dagegen)…Die eklige Seite der Griechischen Geschichte (die hier aus Höflichkeit noch lebender Griechen als Groovy Greeks statt gory Greeks bezeichnet wird), wird auf sehr unterhaltsame Weise vermittelt, obwohl man viele der Witze wohl wirklich nur mit gewissen Geschichtskenntnissen versteht.Die Sprecher sind Top und auch die Soundkulisse ist stimmig. Schade, dass es diese Serie nie nach Deutschland geschafft hat.

I wasn't really sure if buying this book was a horribly good idea, but it was worth every single cent. And even more. The strangest thing is that most of the funny things are true. There's plenty of exageration, but at the end, everything is mostly historical fact. That's amazing.And once I am a self-sarcastic Greek myself, I enjoyed it greatly to laugh with and among my old ancestors.By the way, it would be such a great success to teach history this way!

Das Buch war ein Geschenk: Amüsante Exkursion in die antike Geschichte, teilweise mit aussergewöhnlichen Details ohne Anspruch auf pc,und stellenweise subjektiv anglikanisch interpretiert. Insgesamt aber eine erfrischende, gerade für kritische,jugendliche Geister neue Interpretation des oft als "trocken" schulisch vermitteltendenStoffes. Zusätzlich sicher eine Bereicherung für englischlernende Menschen wegen der "umgangssprachlichen" Gestaltung der Sachverhalte.Mir selbst und meinen Kindern ( 16J und 12J) maximaler Spass ,sowohl wegen der Semantik, als auch der eher respektlosen aber auch realitätsnahen Schilderung der antiken Geschichte.Ich werde weitere Bücher des Autoren zur weiteren Erbauung lesen.

It makes historey fun( History was always my favorite subject)!
